About the Artist (A little bit about me and my art background)

I am a self taught artist how has been painting since the age of 15 and drawing since the age of 8.

I consider myself self taught although I did attend The University of Texas in Dallas with the intent of gaining a degree in Fine Art. Unfortunately UTD was not a very good art school and they never really taught me how to DO art, create a portfolio or even market my work They basically just gave me a place to paint, some supplies and told me to make art. All of that I have learned on my own through research and trial and error. While in school I sold my art both online and locally as well as selling in countries all over the world, including: England, Italy, Australia, Japan, Canada, and the US. I soon was unable to afford to continue my education and had to go back to work.

I now paint in my spare time while raising my 3yr old son and managing a local sandwich shop here in Dallas. I have now finally begun to paint what I want to again and am planning to go back to school to finish my BFA in Fine Art as a part time student this fall. Since I have a little one now and money is tight ( as it is when you have a family to support) I am selling my paintings and prints to earn the money to go back to school. My dream is to provide quality art to the world and live the rest of my life as an artist.

Hanging Canvas Panels

Often times, when I am browsing through the many beautiful paintings here on ebay, I come across something just magnificent. I click on it and start to read about the wonderful piece of art only to realize that the artist opted to use canvas panel. There is nothing wrong with that, many good artists use canvas boards from time to time, I even use them for some of my own artwork. But nether the less, I have many times clicked my "Back" button in disappointment. I didn't want to pay such a high price to have the piece framed. That is, until I discovered some new ways to hang paintings that are not gallery stretched.

First I would like to point out that you will want to find out if the edges of the canvas panel are painted. When you are not going to hide the sides of the painting behind the edges of the frame you want to make sure you will not see any exposed canvas on the sides. Many artists would be happy to paint the sides for you if they haven't already (All my paintings already have the sides painted.), or, if you already have a painting you would like to hang without framing you can opt to touch up the sides yourself.
Here are some of the ways you can hang a flat canvas panel:
1) Attach picture hardware to the back with a glue gun.

2) Buy stretcher bars from an art store, or get a wooden frame. Paint it the color of your choice, and then use a hot glue gun to affix the painting on the pieces of wood so it looks like a stretched canvas.

3) You can also get a piece of wood that’s larger then the painting, drill hole on the back so you can hang it on a nail (kind of like a plaque) paint it and affix the painting on the wood. This method gives the painting a nice border.

4) Buy mirror hangers. They are clear plastic pieces that let you hang a flat mirror.

5) My favorite way to hang a flat piece of art is to get some nice ribbon. cut it to the size I want. Glue both sides of the ribbon to the back corners of the painting. Then, you can hang it on a nail. You can also tie a bow in the top of the ribbon to make it even more decorative. This makes a nice wall hanging.
Well, I hope you find this to be a helpful and fun way to hang your paintings.

Beginers Guide to listing art on eBay: The title

Your title is one of the most important parts of your listing. This is how potential buyers will find your work.

You basically want your title to say as much as possible about your work while using as few words as possible.

A title should consist of these features:

1) The type of art. Such as: painting, drawing, photography...

2) The style. Weather it be abstract, surreal, portrait, folk...

3) The word art! Many people will search for the word art by using keyword terms like, "abstract art" "dog art" and so on.

4) Subject matter. Weather it is dog, cat, landscape, contemporary, modern, floral...

5) The word Original! People want original art by a self representing artist, not reproductions.

6) Your name. You need to brand your art and let people know who you are. But try not to make your name take up too much space. For example, if your name is Ashley Michelle Smith try just using SMITH, AMS, AshleyS or A.Smith. This way when you build up a fan base they can just look for your work by your brand name.

7) Other important words you may want in your auction title are:

ATC or ACEO if you have an art trading card.

Mini, if your painting is small in size.

If you are in any online art groups they may have acronims for their group to help buyers find artwork by that group. Like EBSQ, SRA, OOAK, and many more.

What NOT to put in the title:

1) pointless words like: and, the, if, of, by... and other words that buyers will not put in the search box when looking for art.

2) the full title of your art. Say the title of the piece you are selling is "A Moonlit Summer Night" People are not looking for these words when they search for art. If you want the title of the art in the title of your auction for an easy way to see which work is which when looking at a list of your auction titles try just using abbreviations, "AMSN" or one or two of the words in the name of the piece, "Summer Night". It is best to put the full title of your painting in the sub title.

By using these pointers your auction title should look something like these examples:

RMB ORIGINAL Painting Boston Terrier DOG ART

RMB ORIGINAL Contemporary Painting Modern ABSTRACT ART

Using only the words that people will search for in the auction title will insure your art get more views and bids.
